Missouri's unemployment rate drops

The unemployment rate in Missouri drops to the lowest since June 2008 as the holiday season gets underway. Michael Lindquist has more from the state Capitol.

Wrap: It's the largest drop in unemployment Missouri has seen all year and the lowest unemployment rate since June 2008.

The October 20-14 jobs report shows the unemployment rate dropped from six point three percent to five point nine percent.

The Director of Communications for Missouri's Economic Development department says it's a big deal:

She says long-term projections say unemployment will continue to decrease but says in the short-term, due to winter weather, employment in industries like construction will decrease.

The last time the unemployment rate increased was in March 2014, when it rose to six point seven percent. Since then, it has slowly shrunk almost a full percent with the largest decrease happening in October.
