Wrap: Nixon's State of the State address failed to impress GOP leaders.

House Speaker Tim Jones says Nixon's call for increased funds will likely face serious debate in the House and Senate.

Actuality:  JONE3.WAV
Run Time:  00:15
Description: "Billions of dollars have been poured into our education, into our government schools and that has not resulted in improvements of test scores. It has not helped the St. Louis city public schools become accredited."

Jones says Nixon "throws money" at problems instead of finding real solutions.

He says the Republican party is willing to work with Nixon to reach a compromise for a more balanced budget.

Wrap: While Nixon's State of the State address seemed to please members of his own party, Republican leaders were not in agreement with his budget plans.

House Speaker Tim Jones says he supports Nixon's goal to improve Missouri education but disagrees with his methods.

Actuality:  JONE1.WAV
Run Time:  00:12
Description: "We need some legislative solutions. We need some smart solutions. We need some Missouri solutions to the education crisis that has been affecting St. Louis public schools for over 40 years."

Jones says education reforms should be achieved through new legislation rather than increased funding.

He also says Republican questions about where Nixon will get the money could mean serious changes to Nixon's proposed budget, but that his party is willing to work with the Governor to reach a compromise.
