RunTime:  0:47
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap:

They bill would let teachers carry concealed weapons and act as "school protection officers." They would have to have a conceal and carry permit and get special training.

Republicans say teachers who carry guns in the classroom might be able to protect students from school shootings like the one that happened late last year in Connecticut.

But St. Louis County Democrat Stacey Newman says the Legislature should crack down on gun crime. She says gun crime kills many kids each year and that lawmakers aren't doing enough to stop that.

Actuality:  NEWMAN2.WAV
Run Time:  00:08
Description: "And we think it's funny. We think it's all about being powerful, it's all about our 'rights', but the rights of those kids are ignored."
