Wrap: A state-appointed board took charge in 2007 and now the district is up for review to obtain provisional accreditation.

CEO of the state-appointed board Richard Sullivan says that policies set in place by the district led to an academic and financial turnaround. The district now projects its third straight year of budget surplus.

Description: "Alot of focus was put on the students, alot of focus was put on the classrooms. Yet, we did that, I think we achieved that increasing programs, increasing the academic pools and at the same time we are balancing that budget."

Sullivan says more work needs to be done to prevent these changes from being temporary.

Wrap: The district lost its accreditation in 2007 and a state-appointed board took control of operations.

CEO of the state-appointed board Richard Sullivan says community cooperation was essential in establishing the standards to begin the improvements.

Run Time:  00:14
Description: "Our number one focus was the kids. Our goal from day one was a simple one: We wanted every student reading at grade level. We knew if we could achieve that everything else would fall in place."

Sullivan says there is more work to be done to ensure that the turnaround isn't temporary.
