Wrap:  Congressional districts are based on the last census.

And the census does not ask about immigration status.

Missouri's State Demographer Matt Hesser says illegal immigrants counted in the census in other states has hurt Missouri's representation in the nation's capitol.

Description: "It's fairly safe to say that Missouri has fewer or a smaller percentage of illegal immigrants then some other states such as Texas or California. And so Missouri is competing against states that have illegal immigrants when it comes to distribution of seats within the U.S. House of Representatives."

Intro:
With partisan politics and political stalemates in Washington D.C. you need all the representation you can get, but Missouri will have one less representative because of illegal immigration.
RunTime:  0:42
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: Steven Camarota, director of research for the center for immigration studies, says there were about 10 million illegal immigrants counted in the last census.

And the census is how congressional districts are determined...

So because of the large numbers...Missouri has lost political representation in Washington D.C.

Actuality:  CAMAROT1.WAV
Run Time:  00:20
Description: "A state like California has one, two, maybe three extra congressional districts because of the illegal immigrants who sent in their census forms back. And a state like Missouri, which doesn't have a lot of illegal immigrants may lose a congressional seat because of it or maybe also an electoral vote in the time of the presidential election."
