House Democrats pleaded for a conference to discuss restoring the health care cuts for Missouri's children, but the plea was ignored.

Republican Budget Chair Allen Icet opposed an additional conference, saying the health-care proposal is a 24 million dollar revenue commitment:

Run Time: 00:25
Description: I think everyone, hopefully, everyone in this chamber understands the challenges that we as a state face by going out 24 million dollars general revenue farther out on that limb. It puts us in an even more precarious position. And all you have to do is look at the cash flow crisis the state currently has to understand we're heading down a very, very dangerous path. So Mr. Speaker, I'd recommend the body vote against the motion.

The House voted against further discussion in the budget of Governor Jay Nixon's child health care expansion proposal.

Opponent Republican Tim Flook says health care for children in Missouri is sufficient, and now it's time to focus on others in greater need.

Actuality:  FLOOK3.WAV
Run Time: 00:15
Description: When children are in fact the lowest cost to care for, and we're doing a lot for them. And we want to move down the road of getting into the high-risk pool and dealing with people who can't get any insurance and have really high costs to coverage, we have to make a decision to balance the budget.

The governor's proposal for expansion in children's health care has met with fierce opposition in both House and Senate chambers.

Ardent pleas from House Democrats for further discussion in the budget of Governor Jay Nixon's child health care expansion proposal went unheard in the House.
