Wrap: A new recycling program in Jefferson City is getting mixed reviews.

Assistant Community Development Director Charles Lansford says money is the biggest issue to those who disagree.

Actuality: LANS1.WAV
Run Time: 00:08
Description: So all of a sudden, their price really increased, and they were just used to the old system.

The increase Lansford is talking about is the 15 dollars a month residents will now pay.

Other changes in the recycling program include giving residents two small carts, one for trash and one for recycling and the city will collect those carts only once a week.

Lansford says in three weeks everything should be running smoothly.

Wrap: Residents say there are several problems with the new trash program.

Many are concerned the service is too expensive, and the addition of two push carts will make it difficult for older residents to take out their trash.

Assistant Community Development Director Charles Lansford says the city will address these concerns.

Actuality: LANS2.WAV
Run Time: 00:07
Description: We're identifying those people who need physical assistance, and a company will be providing assistance to those that are truly needy.

Lansford says the new system should be running smoothly soon.

The city is collecting trash only one day a week, and residents will now pay a little more than 15 dollars a month for the service.

Wrap:

Wrap: Assistant Community Development Director Charles Lansford says Jefferson City's residents are beginning to accept the new transition.

Actuality: LANS3.WAV
Run Time: 00:09
Description: I think people are more than just easing into the transition. They're developing a real appreciation for the curbside recycling and trash.
Lansford also said that the number of good e-mails and phone calls saying that this is a good policy are increasing.

Actuality: LANS4.WAV
Run Time: 00:14
Description: Soon as we go through about three weeks of route changes and adjustments, helping people who need help, and finding out those portions of the contract agreement that need some adjustment, we're going to really have a good system.

The new system is more expensive and the city won't collect as often.

But Lansford says the goal is to cut back on the amount of trash filling the city's landfill.
