Intro: The Missouri Senate gave first round approval to a measure that would remove limits on campaign contributions.

Jessica Miller has more from the State Capitol.

In a vote along party lines the Missouri Senate rejected an amendment to that would require state wide voter approval to repeal the limits on campaign contributions. Senator Wes Shoemeyer's amendment would have required voter approval for the legislative effort to remove limits on campaign contributions.

Description: The term of taking this into our own hands and clearly rejecting what the people believed they were doing when they voted on Prop A in 1994, what they believed they were voting on, was some limits.
 
    On the other side, supporters of the proposal to repeal the contribution limits argue that the restrictions approved by the voters 14 years ago have not worked -- that special interests and politicans have found legal ways to avoid the restrictions.
