Citizens of unincorporated areas of St Louis County will have the right to choose the trash hauler under a bill being heard at the House Special Committee on Energy and Environment.
John Campisi, Councilman from St Louis County, testified at the hearing that the new bill will allow households to contract with trash haulers for recycling and bulk pickup on an as needed basis just as was done before the monopoly program.

Description: "We have a Waste Management Code that is unfair, violates against all good reasoning, is unconstitutional and a detriment to good business practices. It financially penalizes those than can least afford it by requiring them to pay for recycling service that they do not need because of the little amount of recyclable materials they generate." |
The Department of Health of St Louis County said the bill will invite too many trash trucks on the roads resulting in excessive traffic and potholes.
