Nixon said the half-hour meeting was not issue driven, but focused on bringing the parties together. In the press conference, Nixon said even though the Missouri Budget is currently in crisis, recreating it without having exact revenue numbers is premature.

Run Time: 00:12
Description: We look forward to working with the legislature. I'm hopeful that we'll continue the bipartisan revenue estimates that we expect to get in the next few weeks so we can begin to lay out what the next budget will be.

Nixon will face a Republican Legislature once he assumes office. However, Nixon claims he will not follow the politics of the last Democratic Governor in this situation, Bob Holden.

Nixon said the meeting did not even mention the words Democrat or Republican, and only established the shared principles between the parties.
Actuality:  NIXONP.WAV
Run Time: 00:12
Description: The shared principles are we're going to work together. You bet we're going to work together. There's 200,000 Missourians unemployed and that's way too many. We're going to work together to create those jobs and opportunities that Missourians need to get those jobs and work here in the State.

The meeting did not cover any issues and Nixon said he will not make a new budget until he has the opportunity to look at exact revenue numbers.

Nixon said until a new budget is created, he will work with party leaders to manage the dollars they have.
