Republican's reacted to charges that the sale of Missouri's Higher Education Loan Authority has led to it's recent economic troubles. Republican Senator Scott Rupp from Wentzville said any monetary problems are due to the economy and the sale has nothing to do with the losses.

Description: "MOHELA would have been experiencing the same issues if we would have passed this bill or not because of the changes that were done on the federal government, on the student loan market, and the credit crunch crisis that's going on right now."

Democratic candidate for state treasurer Clint Zweifel said the sale is keeping MOHELA from provided necessary aid to students.

Democratic Nominee for Treasurer Clint Zweifel brought accusations to Republican Governor Matt Blunt for the sale of Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority.

Former MOHELA board member John Greer said the legislation destroyed the loan authorities availibility to help students.

House Minority Whip Rachel Storch says that the nation's poor economic conditions contributed to the financial losses of Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, but mostly blamed Republicans for embracing failed practices and their inability to change them.
