A bill sponsored by Democratic Senator Frank Barnitz passed out of committee and would change Mental Health Professional requirements.
Currently Missouri recognizes social workers, and other personnel to assess the detainment of a patient against their will. This bill would include LPCs as Mental Health Professionals according to the Missouri Department of Health.
Joseph Parks, with the Department of Mental Health testified for Barnitz.

The bill would not give LPCs authority to diagnose a patient.
