Missouri Governor-hopeful Kenny Hulshof's new inspector general plan would uncover corruption in state government.

Hulshof said Attorney General Jay Nixon's list of ethical troubles is long.

In one example, Hulshof accused Nixon of allowing his personal injury lawyers to collect millions in legal fees for a mere five months of work.

Nixon's campaign spokesman Oren Shur said the attorney general did a service for the state.

Description: "He won that case and in return the tax payers got billions of dollars.  Now those lawyers, though, they weren't paid by the tax payers.  He forced the big tobacco companies to pay for those attorneys."

Shur also said Hulshof's new stance was nothing more than an act of desperation.

Republican Attorney General Candidate Mike Gibbons disagrees with one of his fellow party members.

It's U.S. Congressman Kenny Hulshof and his idea for an inspector general.

Hulshof said the new position's aim would be to sniff out corruption in state government.

But Gibbons says he is not on board with his party's candidate for governor.

Run Time: 00:15
Description: "They're looking at giving the inspector general proctorial authority to file criminal charges which I don't support and this legislative approval for outside lawyers which I don't support that part either."

Gibbons agrees with Hulshof in that a transparent government is necessary.

Republican Governor Kenny Hulshof wants to clean up state government.

If elected, Hulshof said an Inspector General would keep Missouri's government transparent.

Missouri Democratic Spokesman Zac Wright said Hulshof's new plan is nothing more than a frantic attempt to gain voters.

Actuality:  WRIGHT1.WAV
Run Time: 00:13
Description: "It was a similarly veiled political attempt by a failing candidate. He's seen his low numbers in the polls, he's struggling financially, and he is just desperate to throw anything in the race he can."

Hulshof said the Inspector General would aggressively pursue those who break the rules.
