Speaker Rod Jetton added the particular amendment that would make it virtually impossible for a county commission to turn down a petition as long as 15 percent of the voters in the created village sign it.

Republican Representative Dennis Wood opposed the move and says he plans to introduce a bill to change the law back to the way it was before Jetton's amendment.

Description: I'm trying to keep the law like it was, where the county commission has authority to make decisions as to whether a village can be incorporated or not.

Wood said he has support from many other legislators all over the state, but declined to disclose who they are.

Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton made it easier to incorporate a village by removing population requirements. Stone County presiding commissioner George Cutbirth said there are two Missouri statutes they will examine in hopes of blocking the petition.

Actuality:  CTBIRTH1.WAV
Run Time: 00:12
Description: It's either supported by Missouri statutes or, you know, opinions out of the state attorney general's office or whatever area we're dealing with, or it's not supported.

Cutbirth says the issue is simply about making sure everything is up to Missouri statute and that everything corresponds with it.
