Automated calling cleared to final stage in Senate

Intro: A bill requiring solicitors using automated messaging to adhere to Missouri's do-not-call list was approved by the state senate Tuesday and sent to it's final stage.

Beyond being restricted by the do-not-call list, solicitors would be required to identify who paid for the message or give their name within the message.

Columbia Senator Chcuk Graham voiced his concern that although automated solicitors would have to identify themselves there would be no way to verify their identity.

Description: I think there's a lot of stuff going on out there that's a little bit fast and loose and people are probably getting away with some stuff they probably shouldn't



In a way to enforce the law amendments were added to the bill requiring solicitors to register with the state prior to making automated calls.

Intro: A bill banning automated calls to Missourians on the state do-not-call list was sent to it's final stage by the Missouri senate Tuesday with the hope by senators that it will decrease character attacks during elections.

The bill requires phone calls from solicitors to be made by a live person and not an automated recording.

Some senators, such as Columbia's Chuck Graham said restricting and regulating automated messages will decrease character attacks during elections because the recording has to include who paid for the message.

Description: They're impossible to trace, they're impossible to track and I think that they've been part of what's poisoned the political process and made good people not want to run.


Th bill requires solicitors to register their name and any group they claim to endorse with state within 48 hours of making an automated call.
