Adoption proves difficult for same-sex couples

Intro: Though no ban exists forbidding same-sex adoption, gay Missourians can run into difficulty being foster or adoptive parents.

 Chrisler says same-sex couples face more difficulty when adopting through a religiously affiliated agency, and international laws do not allow for same-sex couples to adopt children from other countries. From the Jefferson City, I'm Beth Ford, KMOX News.

In 2006, Missouri gay advocacy groups prepared for a legislative battle that didn't materialize.

Same-sex adoption bans were only introduced in the Ohio legislature. Even though the issue never entered the Missouri legislature, Missouri gay advocacy group PROMO polled citizens in 2006 and found statewide support for gay adoption, says PROMO Executive Director A.J. Bachelman.

PROMO hopes to educate people on same-sex adoption across Missouri so that if a ban arises in the next legislative session, it will fall on deaf ears.
