Current Missouri law says owners of residential telephone lines only can add their numbers to the no-call list. The Missouri Senate moved one step closer to changing that. Dan Frumson has more from the state capitol.
Republican Senator Kevin Engler of Farmington says Missourians need to be elligable for more protection from telemarketers and unwanted advertising.
His bill gives the owner of cell-phone and business fax numbers the ability to add their numbers to the no-call list.
On the Senate Floor, Senators Engler and Democrat Victor Callahan of Independence agreed on the merits of the bill.
"So it's a fairly open enrollment... It is open enrollment... So it's not like somebody has to show... This does bug individuals some too that have it at home. They don't want to be using their paper, their supplies."
The legislation also makes it a crime to obtain or sell telephone records without permission of the customer.
The bill will come before the Senate one more time for a vote; so far there has been no opposition to the bill.
From the State Capitol, I'm Dan Frumson.
