The idea came when a class asked a southwest legislator how students could get more involved in politics. Representative Dennis Wood suggested the class come up with an animal to become the state's official animal.
After months of research the students decided to propose the crayfish as the official inverbrate of Missouri.
Wood says crayfish are found in every county, stream and lake in Missouri and will propose legislation to make it the official inverebrate.

A fifth grade class from Reeds Springs Intermediate School in southwest Missouri hope that their choice of the crayfish will become the state's official inverbrate.

The students in the class asked their representative how they could get involved in the legislative process. Representative Dennis Wood told them to come up with an animal that could become the states official animal. The students chose the crawlfish to become the states official invertebrate.
Woods is sponsoring the legislation and in March the students will come to the capitol to testify infront of a committee.

Woods is sponosring the legislation and says some law makers think the law is unenecessary.
