This piece of legislation from the House allows for vehicles produced before 1996 to be exempt from onboard diagnostics testing.

"Again, my concern is my constituents health, and I just want to keep making that point, we're talking about health. And I would like to be assured that the air will stay as clean. And I have not been assured. It's the old, "trust me, we're the government."

In a 7-1 decision, Senate members voted the bill out to full Senate.

"I mean when you look at the automobile--"..."So you are actually of the opinion that you could take this program away and the air would stay as clean as it is today?"..."I think I'd stay pretty close to what it is today."

Senate Transportation Committee Chair Bill Stouffer says the Senate will debate the bill next week at the earliest.
