JEFFERSON CITY -Missouri State Treasurer, Sarah Steelman, announced a state-wide effort to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina find housing in Mo on Friday. Steelman, who also serves as Chairman of the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC) is working with Gov. Matt Blunt in leading the effort to locate unoccupied housing units throughout the state.
"We are doing a survey right now of developers but so far it looks like we have identified 267 units throughout Missouri that would be available," Steelman said. "We know there's about 120 houses that are on our watch list that MHDC has and I haven't been able to cross-check those against the 267. I know there are another 60 that I think will become available."
The IRS and Treasury Department also announced Friday that income limitation requirements and non-transient requirements for qualified low-income housing projects located throughout the US are temporarily suspended.
