MoDOT is installing more roundabouts at intersections in the St. Louis metro.

MoDOT Spokesperson Tom Miller says the St. Louis traffic circles can be safer and more efficient than traffic lights.

Contents: Again, we have a significant issue of collision points at a signlaized intersection. We can actually reduce that by seventy-five percent if the roundabout is correctly installed.

University of Missouri Civil Engineering Professor Carlos Sun says roundabouts can increase traffic safety in intersections with low to medium traffic volume.

MoDOT says the newest roundabout at the Missouri Research Park will open in a few weeks.

University of Missouri Civil Engineering Professor Mark Virkler says intersections with low to medium traffic volume benefit the most from roundabouts.

MoDOT says it plans to open a new roundabout at the Missouri Research Park in a few weeks.
