. House Committee Hearing Approves Abortion Bill (09/12/05)

JEFFERSON CITY - After a short house committee hearing, an bill that will add abortion restrictions passed today. The bill is expected to pass for final vote by the house on Wednesday.

Rep. Beth Low and Rep. Jeanette Oxford offered the only opposition to the bill with an 8-2 vote. Before the hearing, Low stated concern about what she claims infrindges on contitutional rights established by the Federal Courts.


. Senate Approves Abortion Bill (09/08/05)

JEFFERSON CITY - Without changes and after a nearly 12-hour marathon session, the Missouri Senate approved the governor's proposal for restricting abortions.

The proposal would require a doctor preforming an abortion have privlidges at a hospital within 30 miles. It also would allow parents to sue anyone assisting a minor in having an abortion without parental consent -- a provision that targets an abortion clinic in Illinois where minors can have abortions without parental consent.

The measure now moves to the House.

    . Judiciary Committee moves to protect private information (09/07/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri House Judiciary Committee voted to amend a previous law that banned the internet publishing of the home address, telephone number, or social security number or any elected official.

    The amendment would repeal that ban and replace it with a ban on the publishing of that same information with regard to any person if the information was published with the intent to cause physical harm.

    . The baby of Missouri's governor made his first public appearance -- to promote a college savings program. (09/07/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri's first son made his first public appearance Wednesday, as Gov. Matt Blunt and First Lady Melanie Blunt opened a Missouri Savings for Tuition account for sixth month-old Branch Blunt.

    Clad in a baby sailor suit, Branch was on his best behavior as State Treasurer Sarah Steelmen and 17 lawmakers joined the first family to promote the state college tuition savings program.

    . 1500 Hurricane evacuees arrive in Missouri (09/06/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Governor Matt Blunt said 1500 evacuees from Louisana and Mississippi have already arrived in Missouri.

    Lambert International Airfield is preparing to receive 2000 more.

    JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt wants to require fuel companies to put ten percent ethanol into gasoline.

    JEFFERSON CITY - Republicans introduced two abortion bills in the Missouri House of Representatives Tuesday.

    Due to the Republican majority in both the house and the senate, the bills are likely to pass, but Democrats plan to make their views known.

    . Democratic State Senators Want Governor to Extend Legislative Session to Fix Conflicting Legislation (09/06/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Democratic state senators from St. Louis are asking Gov. Matt Blunt to extend the legislative session.

    They say conflicts in previously passed bills on child abuse need to be fixed.

    The legislators say if the bills are not fixed, abused minors could be in state custody indefinitely.

    JEFFERSON CITY - On the first day of the special session the Missouri House of Representatives met for only five minutes to introduce two key abortion bills.

    . Governor's Task Force studies Eminent Domain (09/06/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Task Force on Eminent Domain, established this summer by Gov. Matt Blunt is looking at current eminent domain practices and definitions.

    Eminent domain allows the seizure of private property without the consent of the owner as long as the property will be used for a public purpose and the owner is justly compensated.
