Task Force Examines Government Efficiency

Jefferson City- A Missouri task force will meet Thursday to examine ways to increase government efficiency. Members of the state government review commission, appointed by Gov. Matt Blunt, drafted more than 100 preliminary proposals that would re-orangize and expand some state departments.

The task force wants to examine the University of Missouri's faculty health care and retirement plans. The task force is considering merging higher education health and retirement administration with the states after a one-year "feasibility study."

The task force also recommends moving Medicaid from the Department of Social Services to the Department of Health and Senior Services.

"They [the proposals] are derived from the testimony and the written and oral testimony that we have received from the public" said Warren Erdman, co-chair of the commission.

Erdman said the purpose of the commission is not to cut the budget but to reform the state government and make it more efficient.

The recommendations in the report will be delivered at the end of the year to the governor and the MO General Assembly.
