The Missouri House passed a 30 million dollar tax on managed care organizations in order to raise more federal money.

The intent of the bill is to raise more money for Missourians on Medicaid...with the help of the federal government.

The state taxes the health care providers...but keeps the money only briefly.

The federal government then matches the state money with the original tax money going back to the health care provider.

The bill's sponsor, St. Louis County Rep. Allen Icet, says the bill is a vehicle to expand access to Medicaid.

Contents: I wish I had the opportunity to send $1 to Jefferson City and get $2.50 back...I would really like that. And that's what's going on with the providers.

Icet says the health care providers are in favor of the tax.

Democrats say the extra burden on providers will be passed on to taxpayers.

From the state Capitol, I'm Victor Roberto.
