Missouri could save millions in Medicaid costs

Claire McCaskill says the state could save millions in Medicaid costs.

State Auditor Claire McCaskill says competitive bidding for medical equipment could save Missouri over five million dollars.

She found a Medicaid contractor was purposefully using high-cost transportation.

Contents: It was an incentive base in the previous contract for the provider to overcharge the state of Missouri. That's not good business.

Durable Medical equipment and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Programs cost the state 100 million dollars between January 2003 and March 2004.

The governor's office says they have since replaced the transportation contractor

And Department of Social Services Spokesperson Deborah Scott says the state is considering competitve bidding for durable medical equipment.
