Gender Not a Factor in Missouri State-Wide Races

A Missouri political expert says the high number of women running for Missouri's top state offices will not sway voters. Bente Birkeland reports from Jefferson City.

This fall Missouri voters have the power to elect women to five out of six state-wide offices. The nominees include four democrats and two republicans. Rick Hardy, a political science professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia says gender will not be an issue in the state-wide races.

Where we reach equality is when people vote for issues and experience rather than gender. And I think that's what we'll see. It's only a matter of time before we have a woman govenor. It very well could be Claire McCaskill this time.

Attorney General is the only state-wide office without a female nominee.
