Governor's Jobs Now Bill Stalls in Senate

The governor's Jobs Now proposal got bogged down in the senate.

The proposal is designed to create jobs by borrowing money to pay for public infrastructure projects.

But it stalled in the senate as lawmakers offered amendments.

The bill sponsor, Democrat Jim Mathewson and Republican Matt Bartle discussed the frenzied efforts to amend the bill.

Opposition to the bill comes from Republican Matt Bartle.

Bartle says if the state's going to borrow money, it should be for improving roads.

He says the two bond proposals this session don't do anything to address the state's biggest problem.

Another senator expressed concerns with the Jobs Now proposal.

Democratic Senator Wayne Goode says the state shouldn't borrow money for economic development when the state has other needs.

But bill supporters say the idea is to create economic development which will provide more money for other programs.
