The House approved a bill that repeals the state's motorcycle helmet law.
Missy Shelton reports.
The bill would require only riders under the age of 21 to wear a helmet.
Supporters of the bill say it's a matter of freedom...letting adult riders choose whether or not to wear helmets.
The bill sponsor, Central Missouri Representative Larry Crawford says helmets don't always save lives or prevent injuries.
But the four physicians who serve in the Missouri House each warned that without helmets, riders will have more serious injuries.
St Louis County Representative Dr. Sam Page says the state has to remind people to take safety precautions.
But for Southwest Missouri Representative Bryan Stephenson says it's an issue of personal liberty.
But that argument doesn't persuade Central Missouri Representative Dr. Wayne Cooper.
He says this bill isn't about the kind of freedom described by Stevenson.
The measure now moves to the Senate for consideration.
