In her bid for the secretary of state's office, House Speaker Catherine Hanaway will run against a name that was the center of one of the state's biggest tragedies in decades. Robin Carnahan, daughter of deceased former governor Mel Carnahan, is the Democratic candidate.
When Hanaway filed as a candidate, she conceded Carnahan is ahead in statewide name recognition.
Hanaway said her campaign will focus on election modernization and job growth, which she hopes to accomplish as secretary of state.
