The Missouri Ethics Commission is expected to discuss several campaign finance complaints tomorrow. Govenor Holden's campaign accuses democratic opponent Claire McCaskill of illegal activity, but Holden's office has yet to file. Megan Clarke has the story.
The same day a complaint was filed against Governor Holden's campaign, his office released allegations about his opponent Claire McCaskill's campaign contributions. However, Holden's office has yet to file an official complaint with the Missouri Ethics Commission.
Holden's campaign says that McCaskill illegally received $500,000 in donations from her husband.
McCaskill's campaign doesn't think Holden will follow through with the allegations. Communication Director Glenn Campbell:
WE DON'T BELIEVE THEY WILL FILE THAT COMPLAINT. AND THE REASON WHY IS BECAUSE CLAIRE MCCASKILL IS ENTITLED TO LOAN OR GIVE CAMPAIGN AS MUCH MONEY AS SHE WILL CHOOSE.
The Missouri Ethics Commissioner Bob Connor says the office cannot confirm or deny that a complaint has been filed.
IT'S STATE LAW. AND IF SOMEONE ON THE STAFF WOULD COMMENT ON IT, THEY ARE SUBJECT TO DISMISSAL.
If a campaign finance complaint has been filed against Holden or McCaskill, the Commission must rule within 15 business days.
Gubernatorial Democratic Candidate Claire McCaskill's campaign says an official complaint has been filed against Governor Holden's campaign finance. The Missouri Ethics Commission is expected to review it tomorrow morning. Megan Clarke has the story.
After being accused of illegally funneling campaign money, Governor Holden's campaign denies wrongdoing and takes it as a compliment. Megan Clarke has the story.
The Missouri Ethics Commission is expected to review a complaint against Holden's campaign filed by former State Representative Doug Harpool.
The Ethics Commissioner Bob Conner says the office will not confirm or deny the status of the complaint, but Gubernatorial Candidate Claire McCaskill's office says the complaint was official filed on Monday. McCaskill Communication Director Glenn Campbell:
WE'RE PRETTY DISTURBED IN REGARD TO WHAT WE FOUND OUT LAST WEEK BECAUSE IT SUGGESTS A PATTERN PERHAPS. IT CASTS A LONG SHADOW OVER A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE GOVENOR'S CAMPAIGN HAS TAKEN FROM THESE COMMITTEES.
The complaint says that thousands of donations were illegally funneled through local committees to Holden's campaign.
Holden Spokesman says the campaign did nothing wrong.
IN FACT, WE SORT OF SEE IT AS A POINT OF PRIDE THAT THESE COMMITTEES ARE SUPPORTING THE GOVERNOR.
If a complaint is filed against Holden or McCaskill, the Commission must rule within 15 business days.
