Warm streak helps make for hot deer season

A top wildlife expert says warm weather is bad news for Missouri deer. Bente Birkeland has that story.

Contents: "When the weather is warm they have to hurry to get theri venison out of the woods because of spoilage and again if it's cold or rainy it discourages hunters from staying in the field."

Heatherly says the unusually warm weather doesn't change deer behavoir. He says deer move around a lot in the fall because it's their breeding season.

Missouri hunters had a record opening weekend, taking in more than 130,000 deer.

Bill Heatherly, a wildlife conservation supervisor at the Department of Conservation says desite the high take in, Missouri doesn't have a deer problem from an environmental perspective.
