Legislators want to put MoDOT under the direction of the governor.
Gov. Holden agrees the change could benefit MoDOT.
"THE FACT IS THAT IT WOULD BRING MORE ACCOUNTABILITY BECAUSE THE PEOPLE KNOW THAT THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI IS THE ONE TO BE ANSWERED TO IN TERMS OF MAKING SURE WE GET THE TRANSPORTATION RESOURCES IN PLACE AND DO THE PROJECTS TO REALLY PROPEL THIS ECONOMY."
Rep. Matt Bartle, who proposed the constitutional amendment, says this change would make road projects a high priority because the governor would have to answer for the poor road conditions.
