State higher education leaders told a house committee their priorities for Missouri's colleges and universities.

Flanked by UM System President Elson Floyd, State Higher Education Commisioner Quentin Wilson told lawmakers participation in higher education in Missouri is at a regional low.
Wilson told the house education committee, current funding can't be cut.
Wilson says participation in state colleges and Universities is at 39 percent.

The University of Missouri System's new President paid a visit to lawmakers in Jefferson City.
Christopher Shields has the story from the State Capitol.
He said one remedy is strengthening the University System's research areas.
Floyd also told the committee he supports the governor's proposal to fund higher education with the sale of bonds against the tobacco settlement.

Dr. Elson Floyd told the house education committee that Missouri's participation rate in higher education is the lowest in the region.
Floyd says great changes must be made to improve this.
The States Higher education commisioner was also on hand for the meeting with lawmakers.
