Ford Plant in Hazelwood to receive tax breaks

The Senate unanimously passed a bill that could save 2,000 jobs outside St. Louis.

The Ford plant in Hazelwood will get tax breaks if the House also approves the bill. Bill sponsor, Senator Jon Loudon, proposed the tax breaks to give Ford the opportunity to stay in business in Hazelwood. He said the bill was largely a bi-partisan effort.

Contents: "The Democratic leadership in the St. Louis County - they got together with the Republican leadership in the Senate, and we all agreed we're just creating a set of tools to negotiate with Ford."

Loudon said the Ford plant generates about 35 million dollars a year in revenue for the state. The Senate didn't want to take a chance on losing that revenue. But, there is no guarantee the Ford plant will stay open even with the tax breaks.

2,000 jobs could be saved thanks to a bill unanimously passed by the Senate.

Depending on what the House does with this bill, the Ford plant in Hazelwood could receive tax breaks. Bill sponsor, Senator Jon Loudon, wanted to give Ford the opportunity to stay in business. Without these tax breaks, Loudon said the plant would have to close. But, even with the tax breaks, there is no guarantee the Ford plant will stay open.
