The department of Elementary and Secondary Education has recieved a 1.5 million dollar grant to continue the expansion of a new teacher training program.
The program provides advanced training for non traditional candidates as they move from other careers into teaching.
According to Holden spokeswoman Chris Kelly, the program was first implemented last year in an attempt to reduce teacher shortages.

According to the department of education, last year's program was a success. All thirty of the participants are now teaching in the classroom.
In order to teach in the classroom the candidates are required to obtain a temporary certificate from the state, which must be renewed each year.
