Preschools receive state money

Some local preschool will receive money from the government. Julie Kroenig has more in Jefferson City.

Governor Holden announced that 47 preschool programs across Missouri will get state grants.

Several of those are in St. Louis.

These grants will either start or expand early childhood education programs or will train staff to work at existing preschool programs.

His spokesperson, Chris Kelly, says the Governor wants to try to help kids throughout Missouri.

Contents: These grants assist a lot of smaller school districts and rural communities. It's part of the statewide program to help children, rather they're urban or rural.

The Parkway School District a few other private preschools in St. Louis will be receiving grants.

His spokesperson says that the Governor wanted to help schools across the state, in both rural and urban areas.

Contents: The new grants are authorized by state law and range from 40,000 to 160,000 dollars. That's dependent on the size of the local program and the number of children that is served.

This money was awarded by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
