Transportation Bill May Have to Wait

A bill intended to be on the August 6 ballot may not make it.

On August 6th voters were supposed to be asked whether or not they wanted to increase motor fuel and sales use taxes for highway and transportation purposes.

But this bill might not make it on the ballot.

Secretary of State, Matt Blunt announced the law requires all 116 election officials in the state to receive written notice by 5p.m. next Tuesday.

But the bill will not be signed until 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Republican Senator Morris Westfall sponsored the bill, but is not worried about its future.

Westfall met with members of the Secretary of State's office and the Chief Clerk from the House and Senate Thursday morning to straighten this all out.

A job that usually takes 30 days is going to have to be completed in four hours to get a transportation issue placed on the August ballot.
