Senate Passes Dram Shop Law

Missouri's Senate has voted to protect bartenders from lawsuits.

Johnathan Woodward has more from Jefferson City.

Right now, bartenders can be held liable for the subsequent actions of their customers.

But the Senate has decided to place more restrictions on when someone can sue a bartender.

This bill says someone can sue only if they can prove that the bartender clearly knew a customer was too drunk, or was a minor--but served that person anyway.

Senator Chuck Gross from St. Charles says the bill clarifies what's typically been Missouri law:
