Student vote on UM Board of Curators gets initial approval from House

The student representative on the University of Missouri board of curators will get to vote behind closed doors under a bill given preliminary approval by the House. JiaoJiao Shen has more from the Capitol.

Even though the bill received initial approval, it faced opposition on the floor.

Mostly doubts about the student's capability as a voting board member.

But bill sponsor Chuck Graham continues to keep his faith in the students.

Representative Chuck Graham of Columbia is sponsoring a bill that changes that.

It allows the student on the UM Board of Curators to vote.

But Representative Yvonne Wilson says she doesn't believe a young person can handle such responsibilities.

She says she knows first-hand how even responsible young people can make mistakes.
