A state senator is pushing for a new type of marriage status.
Johnathan Woodward has more from Jefferson City.
State Senator John Cauthorn thinks that marriage is too often taken lightly.
That's why he's proposing "covenant marriage," which would be optional for couples applying for a marriage license.
Couples who choose the option would have to go to marriage counseling before getting married...and would face more restrictions on divorce.
That's why Mary Moseley of the National Association for Women thinks the plan is dangerous:
The Senate Judiciary Committee took no action on the plan today.
In Jefferson City, Johnathan Woodward.
