Civil Liberty Defenders Have No Problem With Truman Building Security Arrests
March 11, 2002 By: Chris Fink State Capital Bureau
Civil liberty defenders have no problem with arrests at the Truman building security checkpoints in Jefferson City.
Chris Fink has more from the capitol.
Security checkpoints put in place after September eleventh were designed to keep weapons out of the Truman building, but most of the eighteen arrests since October have been drug related.
In two cases, suspects tried to flee after being asked to empty thier pockets.
Senator Mary Bland of St. Louis says she has no problem with people being arrested trying to bring illegal items into the Truman building.
According to state officials, the building has remained under high security due to the large number of state employees and business associates who work there.
