House Committee Considers Adoption Rights
February 13, 2002

The House Civil Justice Committee heard emotional testimony about allowing adoptees to obtain their birth certificate.
Justin Herndon has the story.
Most supporters say a birth certificate is important for medical reasons, not just to find out who the birth parents were.
One adoptee testified that even after knowing who her parents were, she was missing vital information.
Some legislators worry giving adoptees that information would violate the privacy of birth parents.
