The state of Missouri will try to help with the employees who are laid off by American Airlines. Julie Kroenig is in Jefferson City with more.
The Missouri Department of Economic Development will try to lend a helping hand to the employees who have recently lost their jobs with American Airlines.
The deparment will only help those employees who are residents of the state of Missouri.
Although the department can not extend unemployment benefits-that can only be done on a federal level-the department's spokesperson says they can make the task of finding a new job a little easier.
The department will also provide information to inform the laid-off workers of the unemployment benefits that are available to them.

Fourteen hundred former American Airlines employees will be looking for a job. Julie Kroenig is in Jefferson City to tell us how the state plans to help.
The Missouri Department of Economic Development has some plans to help the Missouri residents who are being affected by American Airlines layoffs.
The department cannot offer anything tangible, but can help in retraining and searching for new jobs.
The department's spokesperson, Jim Grebing, says they want to work closely with the employees.
The department plans on wokring with the Division of Workforce Development and other partners in the St. Louis area to discuss other types of employment available.
