While toll roads aren't in Missouri yet, it may not be long.

Some legislators, along with the Missouri Department of Transportation, are favoring a bill that would allow toll roads to be put in place.

Transportation Department attorney Mark Wheatley says toll roads would accelerate projects that have little funding and also aid with congestion problems in urban areas.

And Democratic sponsor, Rep. Jim Seigfreid, says toll roads won't be abused.

Contents: Seigfreid says $500 million is the greatest amount of money that can be allotted to toll road projects at one time.

But, many Republicans say they want accountability in the Transportation Department before they act on toll roads.

Numerous transportation plans have incited a proposal that would allow toll roads to be built in Missouri.

But one St. Louis Representative, Republican David Levin, says other issues need to be addressed first.

OutCue: "satisfied about accountability."
Contents: Levin says before toll roads can be discussed, the House Republican proposal concerning accountability in the Transportation Department needs to go through.

Witnesses testifying for the construction of toll roads say they would help accelerate projects that are short on funds and they could even aid with traffic problems in urban areas.

Democratic sponsor to the bill, Representative Jim Seigfreid, says that only 500 million dollars can be allotted to toll roads at any given time.

So, the state wouldn't be able to abuse them.
