When criminals are released, police officers face the prospect of retaliation. But a new bill may allow officers to breathe easier at home. Erin Guyer has the story from the State Capitol.
Vengeful criminals looking to track down police officers may hit a roadblock thanks to a new bill.
The Senate Transportation committee passed legislation that prevents the home addresses of St. Louis police officers from being considered public information.
Committee chairman Senator Morris Westfall from southwest Missouri says keeping officers' personal information private is an important safety precaution.
Westfall says the allowing the home addresses of officers to be public invites trouble from criminals.
Westfall says officers have been tracked down and killed by criminals seeking revenge...a problem he says the bill will help prevent.
