Attorney General Nixon penalizes 48 gas stations around the state for price gourging

Missouri's Attorney General's investigation into service stations is getting support from the Missouri Petroleum Marketers Convenience Store Association.Date: October 2, 2001

Missouri's Attorney General says gas stations around the state will pay more than $60 thousand as a punishment for price gouging. Sara Lasure has the story from Jefferson City.

Attorney General Jay Nixon announced that 48 gas stations will pay a penalty for price hikes on gas on September 11.

Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association Executive Vice President Ronald Leone says that the Attorney General was effectively protecting consumers.

Nixon began looking into complaints filed by consumers September 12

The money gas stations have to pay will go towards a school fund in the counties where the stations are located.

Attorney General Jay Nixon announced that any station that raised prices above $2.49 a gallon will have to pay a penalty no less than one thousand dollars.
