High lead levels found during testing in Auguest prompted the Natural Resources Department to issue an order to clean up the Doe Run Smeltering Plant in Herculaneum.
And even though the company is complying with the Department's clean-up orders, Natural Resources spokesperson Connie Patterson says that more progress is needed to meet the Department's clean-up deadline.
The clean-up order issued last week asks for the Doe Run company to cease any activity that caused the lead dust to leave the facility, including upgrading the washing of lead-hauling trucks and discontinuing the use of open-backed trucks.
