The Senate Redistricting Committee approves a map that places Gephardt out of St. Louis City

In a straight party line vote, Missouri's Senate redistricting committee kicked US Representative Dick Gephardt out of St. Louis City.

Gephardt's the top Democrat in congress. This change could means reelection could be more difficult for Gephardt, because it moves Democrats out of his district. Republican St. Louis County Senator Mike Gibbons voted for the map.

Contents: But I think ultimately we want to put out a map that's fair to the people of this state and I believe this map is.

The Map still needs full Missouri approval before going to the state House. Michelle Wirth, KMOX-News.

Reelection for congressman Dick Gephardt just got a little trickier. Michelle Wirth has more from Jefferson City.

The Senate redistricting committee approved a map moving Gephardt out of St. Louis City. Gephardt is the US House minority leader. The changes in the map could mean a tough reelection bid for Gephardt, depending on how many Democrats are in his new district. Republican St. Louis County Senator Mike Gibbons says the map is sensible.

Contents: Well, I think what this map does is reflect the real communities of interest that exist within St. Louis. First of all the city of St. Louis is wholly contained within one congressional district, which I think makes sense, since its population is now down to 348,000.
