A month after Governor Holden said in his state of the state address that he wanted to take the lead in fixing the state's transportation needs he unveiled a plan to try and do just that.
Renny MacKay was there for the unveiling.
In that quote several facts about this plan are revealed.
It is a total transportation plan, dividing 620 million dollars between, highways, bridges, interstate roads, river and air transportation and public transportation.
But, to get that kind of money it requires one of the largest tax increases in history. Including a 5/8ths of a cent sales tax increase and a 3 cent gas tax increase.
Voters will have to approve this plan and the tax increase, but Republicans like House Minority leader Catherine Hanaway still aren't supporting the bill.
Under this plan, the Governor would appoint a secretary of transportation and the transportation commission would now be made up of nine members, one from each congressional district.
