Stars and bars displayed on Capital grounds

A symbol of controversy has found its way onto the grounds of Missouri's capitol. Aaron Cummins has more from Jefferson City--

The stars and bars of the Confederate flag are part of a Civil War historical marker just added to the west side of the capitol.

St. Louis Representative Quincy Troupe says he can't understand why the state would display a symbol of slavery.

Contents: Troupe says in light of the recent problems with the placement of the Confederate flag in South Carolina, the placement near Missouri's capitol makes no sense.

In South Carolina, an NAACP protest led to the removal of the Confederate flag from the top of the statehouse.

But, the group isn't happy with the new placement of the flag... a separate display area, still on the South Carolina capitol grounds.

It's what some call a symbol of "southern pride." But, others call it racist and a symbol of slavery. Now, its depicted on a marker on Missouri's capitol grounds. Aaron Cummins has more from Jefferson City--

The Confederate flag is displayed on a Civil War historical marker on the west side of the Capitol.

It's shown next to a general to identify his status as a Confederate.

Contents: Troupe says the marker is a waste of taxpayer money.

The sign was installed by the state's historian. He says the marker is purely educational and his office hasn't received any complaints about the sign.

A sign that shows Missouri's role in the Civil War was installed on the west side of the capitol.

A version of the Confederate "stars and bars" is used to identify a general.

Missouri State Historian Jim Denny says his office hasn't received any complaints about the marker.
